Through Master’s compassion and personal sacrifices as She has worked tirelessly to elevate the world’s consciousness to a saintly level, over the past two decades vegetarianism has grown to become a popular trend. Ongoing activities around the world to promote vegetarianism, namely the distribution of the Alternative Living flyers by our Association members, have also put a spotlight on the need to lead a more noble and compassionate lifestyle. In Hollywood, California, many humane and animal welfare organizations are also spreading vegetarianism through festivals and galas. The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association, along with One World Vegetarian Cuisine restaurant, run by our Association members, have been invited to sponsor and participate in these events by providing vegetarian food on several occasions. Celebrities and movie stars such as Alicia Silverstone, Daryl Hannah, Alec Baldwin, Pamela Anderson, P!nk, Moby, Persia White, Joan van Ark, Linda Blair, Joaquin Phoenix, and Traci Bingham among others, have visited our exhibitions to taste the delectable vegetarian food. Many have also had the opportunity to become acquainted with our beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai and Her teachings, which promote non-violence through a vegetarian diet. They have expressed their admiration for Master and Her compassion for all beings, as seen through Her worldwide humanitarian works and active promotion of vegetarianism on behalf of our animal friends. Many have also been happy to receive “The Real Heroes” DVD, featuring Master’s lecture on vegetarianism, to view for themselves as well as share with their family and friends.
In Hollywood, there are many celebrities with loving hearts. They embrace vegetarianism because along with being animal lovers, they realize that the vegetarian diet is healthier for themselves and the environment. Bass guitarist and manager Neil Kanal of No Doubt fame and actor Kevin Nealon even purchased the One World Veggie Turkey from One World Vegetarian Cuisine to celebrate a vegetarian Thanksgiving with their loved ones. These compassionate stars agree with Master’s message, which She shared in Florida on June 5, 2001: Animals are living creatures, living beings, exactly like us, but just a little more gifted with intuition and sharper faculties. They have intelligence. It’s just that they don’t need complicated computers (brain) like we do. (Excerpt from DVD #712, “The Divine Intelligence of Animals”)
Thus, it was no great surprise when One World Vegetarian Cuisine was contacted by Paramount Pictures for the movie, “Year of the Dog.” This legendary movie maker expressed the wish to showcase our restaurant in its film. Directed by Mike White, a vegan himself, the movie is a romantic comedy with a message about animal rights and vegetarianism. Aside from using our restaurant’s name, we were also asked to provide vegetarian food for the filming of the movie, as well as for the director and crew. One of the movie’s producers also had the opportunity to taste One World’s Food: renowned actor Brad Pitt, who is also a vegetarian. It’s truly wonderful that a vegetarian restaurant can be on the Hollywood silver screen for millions worldwide to see and ponder its message of compassion! We are thrilled that in this era of spiritual awakening, more and more people are returning to the noble way of living, treating all beings humanely, with respect and kindness. As a result of our participation in these past activities, numerous celebrities have come to love many of One World Vegetarian Cuisine’s specialty dishes. We feel blessed to have the opportunity to reach the general public through this restaurant while walking the path of sharing God’s noble way of life – the compassionate and loving life of a vegetarian diet.
Master had also shared Her insights on the issue of non-violence and vegetarianism in Tokyo on May 22, 1993: Inherently we all have a great love within us for all things that move. Therefore if we eat animal flesh, we subconsciously feel very guilty. It breeds sickness and all kinds of uncomfortable feelings and unhappiness in our lives. That's why we suggest that if you want to find a truly happy life, a truly free, carefree life, you should refrain from eating other living beings. Thank You, Master, for Your grace and
blessings that have enabled the world to be elevated at a much faster
rate for the betterment of all beings.
