Celebrating Peace in Gaza
By USA News Group (Originally in English)
On November 21, Golden Year 9 (2012), the world
was relieved to hear the Gaza ceasefire agreement had been reached between
Israel and Hamas. The agreement was announced by Egyptian Foreign Minister
His Excellency Mohamed Kamel Amr in a joint news conference with the United
States Secretary of State Her Excellency Hillary Rodham Clinton
in Cairo. Many Palestinians in Gaza took to the streets to celebrate the
truce after eight days of attacks. The agreement came after a day of negotiations
that included the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Egyptian President
His Excellency Mohamed Morsi and Palestinian officials. Secretary Clinton
had been travelling between Egypt, Israel and the occupied West Bank to
help negotiate the agreement. President Morsi, who took the office at
the end of June, has won praise for his instrumental role in helping to
bring about peace in this region.
Expressing Her sincere appreciation to
His Excellency President Morsi and Her Excellency Secretary Clinton for
their historical work to secure a state of peace in the turbulent situation,
Supreme Master Ching Hai wrote to each of them a thank you letter, which
are presented here. We hope and pray that all world leaders will follow
their noble example and work together to co-create a peaceful kingdom
on Earth for all beings.

Respected Mr. President:
With this letter, I would like
to express my appreciation for your diplomatic achievement in
brokering the Gaza ceasefire. Although you were just elected to
office five months ago, what you have accomplished was historical.
Your efforts stopped the violence and saved countless lives, including
those of innocent children and women.
In the midst of heated turmoil
and pressures from various sides, you have kept a cool head in
negotiating a suitable agreement. You have succeeded in maintaining
a balance between representing and respecting the interests of
your own fellow citizens, the people and governments of Gaza and
Israel, as well as the United States. Through this process, you
have earned the trust of relevant parties and demonstrated your
commitment to bringing about stability and peace to the Middle
Eastern region.
I thank you again for your heroic,
noble efforts for peace and wish you continued success in your
efforts that contribute to greater peace and understanding in
our world.
May Allah bless you and Egypt.
Respectfully
yours,
Supreme Master Ching Hai |

The
Honorable Hillary Clinton
Secretary of State
U.S. Department of State
2201 C Street NW
Washington, D.C. 20520
Dear Madam Secretary of State:
I would like to convey my appreciation
and gratefulness for your remarkable and crucial work in brokering
the Gaza ceasefire. In the midst of the heated turmoil, it was
courageous of you to travel there for this difficult mission.
Through your skillful diplomacy, focus and dedication, as well
as compassion for innocent lives, together with Presidents Barack
Obama and Mohamed Morsi, you succeeded in helping the differing
parties to reach a peaceful agreement.
To have made such an accomplishment,
that is, secure a state of peace in the middle of intense turbulence,
is very blessed and meritorious, and resulted in sparing countless
people from harm.
In fact, over the past four years,
you have consistently used your talents and position as Secretary
of State to help create a more peaceful world for all. From the
beginning, you have led efforts to expand the role of diplomacy
in US foreign policy to improve international relationships and
promote greater harmony. For instance, you helped usher Burma
out of decades-long isolation during a landmark visit last year,
becoming the first US Secretary of State to visit there in 56
years. Your efforts led to the normalization of economic ties
with the country as you encouraged the Burmese government to continue
democratic reforms and peace efforts with ethnic minorities. During
the ongoing Arab Spring, you have called for a peaceful transition
to a real democracy in Egypt, encouraging that changes, despite
the uncertainty, be embraced as opportunities toward a shared
better future. Previously in 2010, you helped to save an accord
between Turkey and Armenia, enabling the two nations to establish
diplomatic relations and open the border between them. Meanwhile,
you have diligently promoted the welfare and rights of women,
highlighting women’s rights as an important way to create
and maintain global peace, while also boldly speaking out for
the rights of the gay community before the United Nations.
Thank you, Madam Secretary of
State, for your heroic and noble work to protect human lives and
dignity and for bringing humanity closer to lasting calm and happiness
on Earth.
May God bless you and the United
States of America.
Respectfully
yours,
Supreme Master Ching Hai |
