(1) Peel and core the apple into 8 sections; then cut into thin slices.
(2) Melt unsalted butter. Mix with vegetable oil and brown sugar.
(3) Sift together flour, baking powder, clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg powders. Add to butter mixture and blend with a wire whisk. Add milk and stir well.
(4) Fold in apple slices with a rubber spatula. Pour into a greased cake pan. Smooth the surface and sprinkle with granulated almonds. Bake at 190º C (375ºF) for about 30 minutes. (If using a traditional oven, bake at 160ºC (320ºF) for about 30-50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.)
